Resveratrol is a naturally produced compound that has been well researched for its potential health benefits. The primary hindrance towards resveratrol's therapeutic efficacy is its traditionally poor oral bioavailability. LipiSperse® is a novel delivery system designed to increase the dispersion of lipophilic ingredients, like resveratrol, in aqueous environments. This single-dose, double-blind, randomized study compared the pharmacokinetics of a commercially available resveratrol with (Veri-Sperse®) and without (Veri-te) the LipiSperse® delivery complex. Healthy adults randomly received a single dose of either 150 Veri-te, 75 Veri-Sperse®, or 150 mg Veri-Sperse®. Venous blood samples were taken prior to dosing in a fasted state and at 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 24 h post supplementation. Plasma trans-resveratrol conjugates were measured by liquid-chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The area under the curve (AUC) (0-24 h), maximum concentration (Cmax), and time of maximum concentration (Tmax) of plasma conjugates were calculated. The 150 mg dose of Veri-Sperse® had a 2-fold increase in absorption (AUC) and a 3-fold increase in Cmax of trans-resveratrol conjugates compared to 150 mg Veri-te. There was no statistical difference between 75 Veri-Sperse and 150 mg Veri-te for AUC or Cmax of resveratrol conjugates. These findings provide support for the use of LipiSperse® to improve absorption of resveratrol.Tenacibaculum is a genus of gram negative, marine, filamentous bacteria, associated with the presence of disease (tenacibaculosis) at aquaculture sites worldwide; however, infections induced by this genus are poorly characterized. Documents regarding the genus Tenacibaculum and close relatives were compiled for a literature review, concentrating on ecology, identification, and impacts of potentially pathogenic species, with a focus on Atlantic salmon in Canada. Tenacibaculum species likely have a cosmopolitan distribution, but local distributions around aquaculture sites are unknown. Eight species of Tenacibaculum are currently believed to be related to numerous mortality events of fishes and few mortality events in bivalves. The clinical signs in fishes often include epidermal ulcers, atypical behaviors, and mortality. Clinical signs in bivalves often include gross ulcers and discoloration of tissues. The observed disease may differ based on the host, isolate, transmission route, and local environmental conditions. Species-specific identification techniques are limited; high sequence similarities using conventional genes (16S rDNA) indicate that new genes should be investigated. Annotating full genomes, next-generation sequencing, multilocus sequence analysis/typing (MLSA/MLST), matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF), and fatty acid methylesters (FAME) profiles could be further explored for identification purposes. However, each aforementioned technique has disadvantages. Since tenacibaculosis has been observed world-wide in fishes and other eukaryotes, and the disease has substantial economic impacts, continued research is needed.Five to 10% of breast cancers (BCs) occur in a genetic predisposition context (mainly pathogenic variant). Nevertheless, little is known about immune tumor infiltration, response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), pathologic complete response (pCR) and adverse events according to status.
Out of 1199 invasive BC patients treated with NAC between 2002 and 2012, we identified 267 patients tested for a germline pathogenic variant. We evaluated pre-NAC and post-NAC immune infiltration (TILs). Response to chemotherapy was assessed by pCR rates. Association of clinical and pathological factors with TILs, pCR and survival was assessed by univariate and multivariate analyses.
Among 1199 BC patients 46 were -deficient and 221 proficient or wild type (WT). At NAC completion, pCR was observed in 84/266 (31%) patients and pCR rates were significantly higher in deficient BC (0.001), and this association remained statistically significant only in the luminal BC subtype (0.006). The interaction test between BC subtype and status was nearly significant (= 0.056). The recordings of a grey wolf, an Arabian leopard and a golden jackal were played to 20 Konik polski and Arabian mares. Durations of grazing, standing still, standing alert and the number of steps in walk and trot/canter were measured. In one-minute scans, the distances of the focal horse from the reference horse (DIST-RH) and from the nearest loudspeaker (DIST-LS) were approximated. The vocalisation of a leopard aroused the Arabians more than the Koniks (less grazing, stand-still and walk, more stand-alert and trotting/cantering). Koniks showed more relaxed behaviours to the leopard vocalisation (more grazing, stand-still and walk), but high alertness to the wolf playback (stand-alert, trotting/cantering). Spatial formation of the herd of Koniks showed tight grouping (lower DIST-RH) and maintaining distance from the potential threat (DIST-LS) in response to the wolf howling, while the Arabians approached the loudspeakers in linear herd formation when the leopard growls were played.
